Smart home sauna with remote start

A clear, straightforward line as well as a simple, restrained sauna in the master bathroom – these were the wishes of the builder family for the bathroom design in their single-family house in Essen-Werden. The modern new building was built by the One! Contact Planning Office with custom-made work very high-quality planned and furnished, so that a high demand was also placed on the sauna. …further targeted partition walls, the bathroom was cleverly structured and divided into individual zones, so that the impression of several rooms is created. The design is very modern, but the combination of warm and cold materials creates a very homely feel-good overall ambience.

The glass front of the hemlock sauna is kept in a slightly tinted grey glass. The outwardly extended bench seat visually ensures a generous effect of the sauna cabin. A chic eye-catcher is the walk-in rain shower, which provides the necessary cooling after the sauna right next to the sauna.

Inside the sauna, the cosy, warm, honey-coloured hemlock wood is skilfully staged by the starry sky and the indirect LED lighting. The sauna is equipped with a combi stove, so that it can be used either as a Finnish sauna or as a bio sauna. The exhaust air of the KfW 40Plus house was adapted accordingly in consultation with the planning office. Light and sauna technology are switched via a KNX bus system and sensor-controlled safety technology. This also allows a remote start of the sauna on the go.

Sauna with a view of the Rhine

This reclaimed wood sauna offers a unique view: directly on the Rhine. The sauna benches were built exactly at window height, so that you can sit down directly in the window and enjoy the view while taking a sauna. The light reclaimed wood of the interior cladding gives the sauna cabin its very own, rustic charm. Other special features of the cabin are, on the one hand, the backlit salt stone wall and the two infrared emitters on the ceiling as well as on the side seat, which additionally provide targeted warmth. … as well as me were always very satisfied. The house is located on a slope and has an unobstructed view of the very close Rhine. We have distributed the room program on three levels, on the lowest level with ground-level access to the terrace, where the fitness and wellness area should be accommodated. We have pushed the sauna with a large panoramic window under the garage of the actual ground floor, the parapet of the window goes directly into the upper sauna lounger. An additional wish of the builders was the salt stone wall and the brine nebulizer. From the very beginning, we wanted a rustic ‘old wood’ as material, which merges seamlessly into the anteroom of the sauna. As a manufactory, corso is much more flexible than many other large sauna manufacturers and responds very well to individual wishes, with high-quality execution. I will also involve corso again for the next sauna projects in the hope of realizing further beautiful solutions together.”

We can only give it back at this point: the cooperation with DDJ is very pleasant – we are already looking forward to the next, joint project.

…interplay of tradition and modernity. The large wellness area was designed by corso with rustic, sunburnt reclaimed wood and thermo-aspen. The wellness offer covers all bathing possibilities: with Finnish sauna, bio sauna, infrared cabin and a steam bath, there is something for every SPA guest. Also the heated benches and foot basins were installed by us. As icing on the cake, there is also a separate private SPA with sauna/infrared, shower and daybed for private wellness moments.

Hotel sauna construction: what to consider…?

When planning commercial sauna projects, for example in the area of the hotel sauna, we attach great importance to designing the sauna systems in such a way that they manage with the lowest possible energy consumption: by means of a correspondingly reinforced insulation, for example, the power consumption can be significantly reduced compared to a “normally” built system. In addition, we generally make sure to make the technology audit-friendly, so that repairs – if necessary – can be carried out quickly and cost-effectively.

Custom-made sauna design: The sauna design in this project should fit seamlessly into the modern house planned with clean lines. The bright, sharp-edged profiled wood skilfully picks up on the straightforward concept of the house architecture. The modern design is complemented by the indirect LED lighting behind the backrests and the glass corner, which ensures a very transparent effect of the sauna cabin. The aspen with its very homogeneous, uniform wood appearance also supports the modern effect of the sauna. The installation of the sauna is carried out as a corner sauna with floor-to-ceiling cladding, so that the sauna with the directly adjoining shower was optimally integrated into the room.

Commercial sauna: public bath with spacious sauna area

An extensive sauna area with several indoor saunas, steam bath, outdoor saunas, roof terrace and relaxation areas is the wellness highlight of the newly built year-round public bath in the Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate): The Schlossbad Neumarkt has become an attraction for the entire region. Our team is proud that corso was able to realize this large-scale commercial sauna project in 2021/22. In total, the sauna world includes 5 saunas and a steam bath, all located on the upper floor of the bath, so that from the roof terrace there is a beautiful view over the outdoor pool. Well thought-out sauna concept: energy-saving and revision-friendly

Christian Braun, Head of Leisure Facilities at Stadtwerke Neumarkt, is very satisfied with the project: “All saunas are equipped with modern sound systems and, like the very well-dimensioned stoves, leave nothing to be desired. Corso has also responsibly decorated the main access area of our outdoor terrace with wood – a real “eye-catcher”. Thanks to Corso, we can inspire our guests every day anew with the facility and enchant them with our infusions.”

During the entire implementation of the project, great importance was attached to working sustainably and conserving resources. Only high-quality, durable woods from controlled, European forestry have been used here. In terms of sauna technology, we have implemented the project in an energy-saving and audit-friendly manner in order to optimize operating and maintenance costs.

Regional references have been taken up in the sauna naming and design: inside, guests can relax in the Pfalzgrafensauna (Finnish infusion sauna, 50 seats): the reddish-earthy shades and the play of colours of the lighting ensure a cosy and relaxed rest. The finely tuned light ensemble offers a harmonious day-night change cycle and is programmable in all colours. A large brass plate directly above the XL sauna heater provides an eye-catcher and at the same time serves as a heat shield for the sauna ceiling above. An atmospheric starry sky was built into the sauna ceiling made of panel material.

From the Schlossweihersauna (panoramic herbal sauna, 20 seats), sauna guests enjoy the unobstructed panorama over the Neumarkter Schlossweiher and the Schlosspark. A mild temperature, essential oils and the stoves installed under the benches ensure a pleasant sauna sweating experience; this sauna can be operated in both Finnish and bio mode. The herbal sauna (25 seats) offers a higher humidity at 65 – 75 degrees, herbs and essences provide an invigorating note. An automatic infusion system is used in this sauna.

The steam bath (17 seats) was a special challenge: the interior design was to be modelled on a large-format underwater coral reef. Since no image material was available in sufficient size/quality, the photorealistic motif was created by us in cooperation with the specialized 3D visualizer Pure3D exclusively for this project. … continuously applied to large-format glasses over all 4 walls using special processes and installed seamlessly (which was actually not child’s play due to the large glass elements).

Outside, the Wolfstein sauna stands for “pure nature” (Finnish infusion sauna, 60 seats): the kelo wood of the interior cladding creates a unique climate. This extremely hard wood comes from permafrost polar regions and does not rotten, but “petrifies” so to speak. The wood is extremely robust and very well suited even for the most intensive infusions, so that here in the castle bath also Weniks, Banja rituala or beer rituals with beer abrasion can be offered.

In the salt sauna (Finnish sauna, 20 seats) it smells of fresh conifers and fine salt crystals: a mild stimulating climate that is particularly beneficial for stressed respiratory tracts. The sauna back wall was designed with salt stones, which can be illuminated with color changes. Bowls with salt and dried pine needles additionally support the effect. Our team also creates an eye-catcher in the relaxation area : the seemingly “burning glass wall” of the fireplace lounge gives the impression of a floor-to-ceiling indoor fireplace. The highlight, however, is that the fire glow is caused solely by the effective use of lamps. In this way, the “fire” can be achieved with minimal effort and is particularly easy to maintain.

… the client came to the corso exhibition and can recommend this to anyone who is planning a sauna at home: “I come from a family of carpenters and grew up in a carpentry shop in Delmenhorst. It was impressive to see the corso manufactory and to take a look at the production: the smell of processed wood works, I had a very positive impression of the craftsmanship of the carpenters and simply collected a lot of inspiration on site.”

When planning the sauna together, care was taken to optimally integrate the cabin into the room: walking paths and viewing directions are chosen in such a way that you feel safe in the sauna, but the view can wander both into the countryside and towards the fire during the sauna. “Thanks to the open design, we can enjoy the view outside into the garden or onto the effect fire while taking a sauna. The sauna has actually become a pole of tranquility for us, which we use with the whole family. My wife uses it more as a warm bio sauna, but when I go to the sauna with my son, we take a Finnish sauna at correspondingly high temperatures. Thanks to the combi heater, we have all the options.”

The highlight of this custom-made sauna project is without a doubt the very successful combination of the cozy thermo-aspen and the generous glass front, continued over the corner. The thermo-aspen in the sharp-edged version looks modern, but the dark shade and the brushed surface make the wood look very comfortable: due to its unequal structure, the wood is reminiscent of flotsam drawn by the rough sea. The surface enlargement creates an optimal sauna climate, whereby the “caramelized” aspen exudes a pleasant wood scent. The externally extended sauna benches form a beautiful transition from the sauna interior to the room and can also be used as a practical storage area or for seating. For the client from Ganderkesee, corso sauna was the right decision: “From planning to installation, everything went very well and very according to plan, the entire process was great.”

We say “merci” for the great feedback and are very pleased that we were able to plan and build this sauna project – because satisfied customers are the greatest motivation for our entire team.

Shed conversion to outdoor sauna

In this project, a former garden shed was converted into a chic design sauna. The challenge was to incorporate the sauna and the glass front exactly into the existing room. The satisfied builders said: “I had been thinking about an outdoor sauna for a long time, but never found the time to turn this idea into a project. Nor did I really know what exactly I wanted. Then Corona came and with the lockdown plenty muse to continue spinning the thought (…) I noticed how much unnecessary rubbish had accumulated in the old shed that was being disposed of…”

…or re-layered. Due to the installation in the shed, neither space in the garden had to be sacrificed nor a sauna roof had to be built. In addition, the old shed exudes a certain hut romance, which in turn inspired me to choose a rustic design with reclaimed wood for the sauna. After long internet searches and comparisons of providers, I knew what I wanted. A prerequisite for the sauna installation was the refurbishment of another smaller equipment shed on the property in order to move the garden equipment out of the garage shed intended for the sauna and to make room for the sauna. Thanks to lockdown, time has also been found for this. We go to the sauna regularly. In winter with snow even more often than now in spring, because you can also lie down in the snow to cool down after the sauna. And every time we enjoy the hut ambience, which reminds us so much of the mountains. We recommend to any potential sauna builder not to rush anything. Good things take time.”

Satisfied customers are our greatest motivation, so we are very pleased that we were able to realize this project for the family.
