Sauna with glass corner in rod look

We were allowed to build this custom-made sauna for a family in Münster: the dark thermo aspen in a rod profile creates a very special sauna look. The sauna benches and backrests are also optically designed in a rod look, and the joints have been perfectly coordinated.

The room (actually) has a floor-to-ceiling window, the additional built-in sauna window deliberately reduces the light cut-out in favor of sauna cosiness – such a solution is also possible.

The photos were taken during the day – but you can imagine how wonderful it must be to relax in the sauna at home in the evening “above the rooftops of the city” and enjoy the view of the stars in the sky…

Through the sauna wall, which continues to the outside, the cosy, dark sauna wood has an effect on the entire room. Beautiful details are the storage area for the sauna bucket and the black fittings, which harmonize perfectly with the black sauna accessories.

The dark pendant lights above the stove pick up on the narrow lines of the rod profile and create a homely, cosy ambience. The LEDs behind the backrests also provide pleasant, indirect lighting for the entire sauna cabin.

Small but nice: this corner sauna has quite compact dimensions (164 x 144 cm floor area). Thanks to the double-sided glazing across the corner, the cabin still looks spacious and, with the floating sauna benches, offers plenty of room to relax with a view of the garden. The cabin is designed in Thermo-Espe in combination with brushed Thermo-Espe.

In combination with the sunken bathtub and the primarily black and white furnishings, a modern and cosy wellness area has been created here.

Sauna Massanfertigung in Thermo Espe in Stäbchenoptik mit Glasfront

The special feature of this sauna is the continuous rod look: Both the interior lining and the sauna benches are completely made of fine rods – an elaborate, handcrafted design. The dark, cosy thermo aspen forms an elegant contrast to the bright furnishings of the bathroom.

High-quality custom-made sauna, fully integrated into the bathroom (with discreet shadow gap). The built-in sauna benches, suspended in front of the large glass front, convey lightness and are skilfully staged by the indirect LED lighting.

“In relation to the price per square meter for complete interior conversions, our plug & play wellness area for hotels is comparatively cheap. We adapt the design to the style of the hotel. The Outdoor SPA is a perfect compact solution, everything is united under one roof: the sauna, the shower to cool off and the relaxation area to relax. The large sliding hinged door allows the relaxation room to be opened generously. In the colder season, the underfloor heating ensures a pleasant temperature.

CONSULTATION

Plug & Play Wellness

Seehotel Lichtenberg is located on a wooded peninsula directly above Lake Luzin. The property is crisscrossed by winding paths and ancient oaks: an oasis of peace for nature lovers. Manja Wyk, hotel operator: “Our guests go hiking, cycling or kayaking on the lake. With us you can unwind and relax in the sauna.” However, the old sauna had to be closed – and the hotel lacked the space for an appealing SPA. That’s how the idea of planning an outdoor SPA was born. Ralf Wyk comments: “We already had very specific ideas and everything should be built according to our wishes.” Another aspect was to have as little disruption as possible to the ongoing hotel operations: with a short construction time and little construction noise. The two hoteliers did some research on the internet to look for inspiration for the commercial outdoor sauna. Ralf Wyk: “We really liked corso’s references – and we liked the old wood because it spreads such a rustic, cosy atmosphere. We then arranged a consultation with corso and also visited the manufactory. In conversation with specialist planner Regina Schwab, it quickly became clear that we had found the right partner. On the homepage it says that corso plans “with a great feeling for design” – I can only confirm that.”

It was important to both hotel operators that the outdoor sauna blends in well with the landscape. For this purpose, the slope was partially excavated and the sauna was virtually incorporated into the hill. The integration is rounded off by the green roof and the stone wall. In the exterior design, the materials and colours of the main house were taken up with natural larch and white windows.

Flying sauna house

Manja Wyk: “It was definitely a very exciting moment when the outdoor sauna, which weighed several tons, flew over our entire hotel and then landed on the hill. That took my breath away for a moment. – Now I am glad that we can offer our guests a beautiful retreat to relax. With this wellness area, we will definitely increase our occupancy rate in autumn/winter.” The sauna is controlled via a card slot: guests can book the outdoor sauna and, if desired, reserve it as a private SPA – turning the sauna into a profit center.

Another high-quality detail of the garden sauna is the illuminated salt stone wall, which provides a very special look both in the shower and in the sauna.

Rustic, weather-tanned old wood has been used in the interior design, which gives the garden sauna a cosy atmosphere with “alpine chic”.

Due to the large daybed and the integrated shower, the sauna house can also be used as a guest house.

The STRATO whirlpool (Riviera Pool) was also supplied by us and clad with the same rhombus profile wood to match the garden sauna, so that the entire ensemble in the garden results in a harmonious overall look.

Reclaimed wood: what is that anyway?

There is a lot of talk on the market about reclaimed wood, but often it is wood with an “old look”. When we talk about reclaimed wood, we mean original old wood: that is, this wood comes from old farmhouses and huts in Austria. The wood has been exposed to the weather there for decades: rain, wind and sun have had an effect on the wood for years, giving it its unique, quaint character: Each piece of the reclaimed wood tells its very own story, so to speak… In order to be able to use the wood for the construction of the sauna, it is carefully removed, cleaned and processed. There are lighter and darker sorts. The original sunburnt boards all have an individual look, none looks like the other. But that’s exactly what is desired and the special thing about the original old wood.

Do you use the sauna regularly?

“Yes, I’m in the whirlpool several times a week, but also in the sauna.”

What do you like most about your sauna?

“The sauna inspires me in several ways: the scent of the thermowood, which smells slightly of caramel. Through the large glass front (corner glazing) we have a beautiful view of the whirlpool and garden. And with the combi sauna heater, we can use the sauna as a bio sauna or as a Finnish sauna, depending on our mood. All this really makes the sauna a perfect haven of peace.”

Our tip for builders who are planning a tailor-made sauna for their home:

If you are planning a sauna, please contact us very early. This gives us the opportunity to provide you with the best possible advice so that the on-site requirements can already be taken into account during construction planning. If, for example, the sauna heater is to be installed free-standing in the glass corner, as in this project, this naturally looks particularly chic if the cables are laid invisibly under the tiled floor. To do this, sauna planning must be carried out at an early stage and in detail so that the cables come out of the ground at the right point.

We have individually planned and built this sauna with window to the outside as a custom-made product. In an interview, the client is very satisfied with the project realization:

What were your wishes for the project?

“Our design idea was that the sauna with a window to the outside should look spacious and open, accessible from the bathroom and look good.”

How did you come up with the sauna idea?

“We wanted a sauna to keep fit in old age and have a good time…

…to enjoy beautiful hours (especially in winter) with relaxation and good music in our own home. Especially if you’ve had a stressful day, it’s a very pleasant way to wind down and relax. And this has actually been a complete success: With the corso sauna, we have found a new haven of peace in our lives, which gives us a break for body, mind and soul.”

Were there any particular challenges, how were they solved?

“The particular challenge lay in the sloping ceiling and the low ceiling height. As a result, however, it has been possible to create an airy, spacious sauna room despite its niche character (small room with a low ceiling).”

The large passage directly to the bathroom is practical, making it easy and quick to reach the shower to cool off after the sauna.

What do you like most about the sauna?

“I particularly like the sauna bench/wall that is extended further outwards, which makes the sauna look even more spacious. The black tongues between the light profiled wood are visually very beautiful and it all looks very harmonious, as we have designed the woods of the back wall and the seat to be the same width. As a result, the entire look of the sauna looks very calm and homogeneous.”

How often do you relax in your sauna?

“We now use the sauna 1 – 2 times a week and enjoy the healthy moments of relaxation very much.”

How did you find out about corso?

“We came to corso through the company Treibholz from Bremen. Treibholz has been with us for many years as a specialist shop for ecological and sustainable furniture construction and as an interior designer.”

Sauna with window to the outside: Which windows are suitable?

Plastic windows are not suitable for installation in a sauna with a window, as they can warp due to the high heat. In addition, plastic windows could release harmful fumes due to high heat and humidity.

Instead, wooden windows are used in sauna construction, and aluminum windows are also suitable. However, if there is a plastic window on site that is not to be replaced, special solutions can be taken into account when planning the sauna: One possibility, for example, is to place a second window in front of it, which is made of wood and toughened safety glass.

Within the house, there was no space for a private wellness area. Therefore, the idea arose to build this sauna on the garage roof. The result is a perfect retreat with a fantastic view of the countryside: through the generous sauna glazing and thanks to the integrated exterior windows, you can look out into the lush green nature while taking a sauna. A special highlight are the sauna benches, which are extended outwards, on which you can also enjoy the view while relaxing. The sauna was designed in rustic reclaimed wood – and the relaxation area was also furnished in the appropriate “alpine chic”.
